I know that you can’t see your face in this picture, SGT P, but I still love it because it captures your attitude so well.  Actually, I’m lucky to have a picture of you at all, because you always ran from cameras.  

You were a great friend and person, and I miss you already.  There were so many Class I pickups that might have sucked because it was hot, windy, rainy, cold, snowing (and I’ll never forget the times when you shoveled snow right down my shirt), still dark, whatever… But they didn’t suck.  You would always show up with coffee and a cigarette and we would load up and talk and laugh and hang out… Those were always my favorite mornings.  

And riding with you outside the wire?  We knew we could tell each other anything, and we did.  We worked, but we had a good time, too, and those are memories that I’ll keep close to my heart forever.

Bonds form on deployments, seemingly for no reason… I’m blessed and honored to be able to say that we had one, too.  It hurts that you’re not here, but at the same time I know that you’re watching our backs from the best possible vantage point, and that gives me a little comfort.

RIP SGT P… We’ll miss you
